Boston, MA – May 11, 2006 -- The Boston Business Journal has named Mt. Washington Bank one of the Best Places to Work in Massachusetts in its fourth annual regional awards program. The honor acknowledges the company's achievements in creating a positive work environment that attracts and retains employees through a combination of employee satisfaction, work environment and company culture.

The Boston based Mt. Washington Bank was one of more than 300 companies to qualify for consideration, making the top 20 list in the midsize company category based on the results of employee-satisfaction surveys taken throughout the spring.

"We pride ourselves on the excellence of our employees,” said Ed Merritt, Mt. Washington Bank President & CEO, “and this underscores the fact we are committed to providing them with a great work environment."

"For the fourth year in a row, our results validate how the creation of the right corporate culture can create powerful business advantages," said George Donnelly, Boston Business Journal editor.

Donnelly continued, "Employees are proud to work for companies that are about more than just business."

The top 20 companies in four size categories - emerging (10-24 employees), small (25-100 employees), midsize (101-500 employees) and large (more than 500 employees) - will be profiled in a special supplement of the Boston Business Journal to be published on June 23, 2006.

A countdown celebration breakfast will be held on June 22 to announce the final rankings - including the top company in each category. Additional event information can be found online at http://events.bizjournals.com/2313.

The survey project itself was launched in January by the Boston Business Journal in conjunction with market research firm QMR Inc. of Wichita, Kansas. Companies were evaluated on the results of more than 20,000 employee-satisfaction surveys. Employees answered questionnaires that addressed such factors as their pride in the company, company encouragement, support and recognition of achievement and relationships with co-workers and supervisors. The results were analyzed and scored by assigning points to each question.

"Accommodating employees' personal needs pays back dividends in loyalty and productivity," said Boston Business Journal Publisher Michael Olivieri. "The companies on our list recognize that their commitment to employees is especially important as the economy strengthens and competition for talent continues to grow."

Olivieri continued, "The Best Places to work know the care of their employees is instrumental in maintaining the quality and reputation for services and products."

"We have always had a goal to be a great place to work. We believe this is a critical ingredient in order for us to be a great place to bank," said Ed Merritt, " It’s a great honor to be recognized by the area's leading business journal.”

Founded in 1893, Mt. Washington Bank has stayed committed to the promise outlined in its mission statement by being "full-service independent bank, offering financial services to meet the needs of its retail and small business community. Mt. Washington recently announced the opening of its new Gallivan Boulevard branch in Dorchester, representing the Bank's fourth branch location in addition to a stand alone loan center.
